Reno, NV, October 14,2022 – A grassroots non-partisan group of volunteers submitted 302 voter challenges to the Washoe County Registrar of Voters in Nevada. The challenges were primarily for people who have moved out of state and self-reported their move via the National Change of Address Program. The group submitted a list of 12,000 additional names that need investigation by the County to be removed from the voter rolls.
Per the statute: “(b) Within 5 days after a challenge is filed, mail a notice in the manner set forth in NRS 293.530 to the person whose right to vote has been challenged pursuant to this section informing the person of the challenge. If the person fails to respond or appear to vote within the required time, the county clerk shall cancel the person’s registration…”
Challenges can be made by voters in the same precinct that have “firsthand knowledge through experience or observation of the facts upon each ground that the challenge is based” and contain “any documentation or evidence supporting the facts upon which each ground for the challenge is based.” Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 293.416 (3).
The group was provided the lists from Robert Beadles, an entrepreneur known for fighting for election integrity across the country. They have an additional 30,000 challenges just in Washoe County. There are many more across Nevada.
With the State of Nevada one of the founding members of ERIC, the Electronic Registration Information Center, it was surprising to the group to have so many voters that remained on the voter rolls from 2018-2020 and beyond. ERIC is a non-profit organization that is financed by state elections agencies and chief election officials. The headline on their website reads: “Ensuring The Efficiency And Integrity Of America's Voter Rolls”. One of the volunteers remarked, “Why are we doing this if we are paying this organization to keep the voter rolls up to date?”
