Censorship...By Omission?
Congressional Hearing on Censorship-ICYMI; ALA recommends blocking Brave Books "See You at the Library" event
Does the media engage in censorship by omission? How many legacy media outlets covered the IRS whistleblowers’ hearing in depth? How many covered the censorship hearings in depth? Isn’t that their job? They used to be expected to be the “watchdog” of government, interviewing and making sure politicians were accountable. Though there are a some outlets that have “watchdog” journalists, they are few and far between. Is this censorship by omission?
What about outright censorship? In the recent decision in the case Louisiana, et al v. Biden, et al., Judge Terry A. Doughty of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana entered an injunction that prevents the White House and several federal agencies from contacting social media companies for specific activities. Read the decision linked above. They are not prohibited from ALL contact; specifics are outlined in the decision.
Did you know the American Library Association’s (ALA) Director is a self-avowed Marxist lesbian? Emily Drabinski, was elected president of the ALA in April 2022 and took office this month. As a result, the Montana State Library Commission voted Tuesday to leave the American Library Association.
The ALA suggested ways to avoid allowing Kirk Cameron’s “See You at the Library” event on August 5th. Drabinski recommended in a meeting of the ALA that “…the First Amendment does not require the library to even offer meeting room spaces”.
